JOB DESCRIPTION:

West Coast Code Consultants, Inc. (WC³) is currently seeking hard-working, eager-to-learn individuals who are willing to be trained in the duties of electrical plan reviews. We are seeking a motivated individual with a commitment to excellence and a desire to serve the needs of jurisdictional clients. Candidates will be responsible for reviewing electrical plans, including solar photovoltaics (PV), energy storage systems (batteries), generators, and electrical systems for buildings to check for compliance with applicable building/electrical codes. Candidates will also be taught to prepare comment letters and communicate deficiencies to applicants, design teams, and jurisdictions. It is expected that continual training will take place, and highly encouraged for candidates to continue receiving International Code Council (ICC) certifications. Having ICC certifications is not necessary for the initial hire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Reading and reviewing plans and associated project construction documents (training will be provided to show how to properly review documents and plans).
  • Initially, the individual will perform plan reviews on simple projects and, over time, learn more complex electrical reviews.
  • Electrical plan reviews will include solar photovoltaics (PV), energy storage systems (batteries), generators, and electrical systems for buildings.
  • Assembles letters of deficiencies referencing the pertaining codes (primarily from the National Electrical Code, but partially from ICC codes). Training on the proper writing of review letters will be provided.
  • Communicates with jurisdictions, project owners, and/or design teams about deficiencies and solutions while fostering and maintaining professional relations at all times.
  •  Over time, will answer questions for design professionals, contractors, and the public regarding building codes, permitting processes, and general procedures.
  • Keeps accurate records and logs of plan review status and completion of projects.
  • Consistently takes responsibility for ensuring processes remain timely within the established expectations for turnaround and client service.
  •  Most work will be completed at a computer, sitting (or standing if preferred) for periods of time.
  • May occasionally visit construction sites to see different phases and methods of construction.
  • Options for performing site inspections, depending on individual willingness and ability to obtain ICC inspector certifications.
  • Make efforts to promote goodwill in the office.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Plan review experience is not required, but preferred.
  • It is highly encouraged to obtain International Code Council (ICC) plan review certifications and continual certifications; however, it is not required for initial hire.
  • Must have at least a basic knowledge of the electrical code, or at least a good understanding of electrical terms and concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must possess proficient writing skills

SALARY:

  • Depends upon experience and knowledge of the electrical code.
  • Pay increases are potentially available as ICC certifications are obtained.
