JOB DESCRIPTION:

West Coast Code Consultants, Inc. (WC³) is currently seeking a client-focused and versatile Fire Plans Reviewer / Fire Inspector / Client Manager to join our Fire Prevention team. This hybrid position offers a unique opportunity for a motivated professional to engage in plan review, field inspections, and client relationship management while supporting jurisdictions throughout the greater Salt Lake City area.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic self-starter who thrives in both technical and client-facing environments. This role will work closely with our experienced team of Fire Protection Specialists and municipal partners, serving as a trusted resource to fire marshals, building officials, and jurisdictional staff.

This position is an in-house role to be filled in either of our Regional Offices located in Orem or Layton, Utah.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Plan Review & Technical Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed fire and life safety plan reviews to ensure compliance with adopted Fire Codes, Building Codes, and applicable NFPA standards
  • Review fire protection systems, including sprinklers, alarms, standpipes, fire pumps, and related systems
  • Evaluate fire access, water supply, means of egress, construction types, hazardous materials, and emergency responder radio coverage
  • Prepare clear, concise, and code-referenced comment letters and communicate deficiencies and solutions to design teams

Inspection Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections of fire and life safety systems for compliance with approved plans and applicable codes
  • Verify installation and operational compliance of fire protection systems
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation Client Management & Business Development
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with jurisdictional clients, including fire departments and building divisions
  • Serve as a key point of contact for assigned clients, ensuring responsive communication and high-quality service delivery
  • Travel within the greater SLC region to meet with fire marshals, building officials, and other stakeholders
  • Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities and representing WC³ in a professional and client-focused manner

General Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with jurisdictions and applicants to ensure complete submittals
  • Respond to inquiries via email, phone, and in person regarding fire code requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fire codes, standards, and industry practices
  • Utilize software systems to track plan reviews, inspections, and project status
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support team operations and workload balance
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance and ability to travel to project sites

REQUIREMENTS:

  • ICC Certification as Fire Inspector I & II (required)
  • Existing certification or ability to obtain ICC or NFPA Fire Plans Examiner certification within six (6)
    months of hire (required)
  • Experience in fire plan review and/or fire inspections (preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of fire and life safety codes and NFPA standards
  • Experience working with municipal fire departments or building divisions
  • Background in Fire Protection Engineering or related field
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic plan review systems
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

SALARY:

  • $70K – $150K / annually, depending upon experience.
